This is a free community event hosted by Northumberland United Way, the Affordable Housing Committee, and Northumberland County. Donations to United Way will be accepted at the door. We are excited about the opportunity to collaborate on raising awareness around the issue of homelessness.
Krista Loughton, a Canadian filmmaker wrote and directed this film, and Krista will be joining us for this film screening to introduce the film, and participate in a Q &A.
Ten years in the making, this is the story of Krista’s experience learning about the lives of four chronically homeless people. She teaches her charismatic friends about the First Nations Medicine Wheel in hopes of improving their lives. When one tragically dies, she seeks out the counsel of addictions specialist Dr. Gabor Maté, who forces Krista to confront her own motivations. In the end, they come to understand there is no difference between them.
Us and Them breaks stereotypes, We want as many people as possible to see our film, to change the way the general population views the homeless.
